How many indicators…?
New material (see next page) has been added in the hope that, ultimately, it will be possible to make a reasonable prediction of the total quantity of indicators that have been made.
The work, which will take time to complete, is based on an analysis of serial numbers. So if you have an indicator which is numbered outside the ranges given for each manufacturer, I'd really like to know!
There is always a chance that the date of manufacture can be deduced from a serial number—this can currently be done with Dobbie McInnes indicators to ±1 year, and with German-made Schaeffer & Budenberg indicators to ±2 years.
